It was quite an experience, from the moment his chauffeur picked us up in the a/c'd Mercedes until we returned 2 days later. We enjoyed the first hand glimpse at the inner workings of producing and hosting a huge celebration for a whole village and the generousity this man possesses, making every person who came to visit him feel like the most important of people.

Costello-Events > The 20th May is Cameroon's Unification Day, when the Anglophone and Francophone provinces together formed the country of Cameroon. Each year there a huge celebration sweeps through the country, from Yaounde to even the smallest of villages. Here is the crowd that gathered in Moulvoudaye, about 1 hour from Yagoua, to watch the parade and festivities (notice the kids in the trees).

Costello-Events > Regardless of the holiday being celebrated, all the leaders and many villagers congregate at the local stadium to watch school kids parade by, some performing dances and songs, followed by the parading of various organizations, political parties, etc.

Costello-Events > The man pictured here receiving a medal is the reason we were in Moulvoudaye to celebrate the 20th May. As Cameroon's former Secretary of State and our landlord, when he invited us to party with him in his village we couldn't and didn't want to say no.
