Costello-Events > Erin doing dishes in her Cameroonian kitchen. Mmm...check out the American goodies she was rewarded with!
Costello-Events > Kelly got in on the housework action too! Faissel helping with the big laundry in the background while Kelly does the undergarments in a bucket. Faissel enjoys helping Erin and Mike around the house, and this way he gets to earn a little money during the summer while he's not in school.
Costello-Events > Doesn't every local bakery store their flour in an old tub? If they don't, they should, because this place makes some mean bread!!
Costello-Events > This was the team making the delicious rolls. The kid in the back left was about 12 years old and could cut dough like no other! He was good! They then keep all the dough balls on those wavy pieces of aluminum. The Cameroonian people are very resourceful and manage to do so much with the few things they have! I admire that!
Costello-Events > Showing off the breadstick dough before it gets cooked. They took the hot coal and placed it under the big stack to make the bread rise.
Costello-Events > The bakery's oven...this bakery makes 200,000 pieces of bread a day for Yagoua! It was amazing!
Costello-Events > The bakery's firewood stack/pet goat playground
Costello-Events > Taking a tour of the technical high school. This was one of three high schools in Yagoua, and we toured them all. The technical school was by far the best kept...a lot of the time the principals take the money they are given for school upkeep and do with it as they please. Kelly and mom were really interested in seeing the schools since they are both in education, and the poor state of the schools was definitely difficult for them to see.
Costello-Events > This was a tour of the bilingual high school just across the lawn from the nice technical high school. You can see it is in terrible shape...luckily they have a new principal who Erin and Mike say is dynamic and has big plans for the school. He applied and got a grant from the US Embassy to fix up his school, and he was very excited!
