Costello-Events > Kelly's Bar in Cobh and I have the tee shirt to prove it. Actually, three polo shirts in a gaudy black and yellow advertising Bulmer's Cider (which I never tasted) at 20 Euros each. Okay, there's real money and there's vacation money, what can I say. Bulmer's is particularly popular in the south, being brewed in Clonmel, County Tipperary. It is a cider which is poured over ice and is enjoyed by mostly young people in my observation.
Costello-Events > The rear of the Cahernane House Hotel with the newer rooms to the right. We tried staying in the old house (I did request that) but asked to move when the door wouldn't lock and the floors squeaked so loudly you couldn't hear the radio. Moving was a wise choice.
Costello-Events > I think this was Cashel, don't remember. Do remember it had a "pub/provisions/beer garden" sign in the window. The pub was full of regulars, was about eight feet wide at most, had some random canned food on shelves behind the bar, was strangely divided into three sections by partitions that did not go all the way to the ceiling BUT had the most delightfully peaceful and beautiful garden out back, easily 50 times larger than the pub! Nicely landscaped with "ruins" (see over my left shoulder), cooing doves in the trees and (drum roll please) a claw foot bathtub full of flowers. God, I love Ireland.
Costello-Events > So Cathy is the principal at Anchor School, right? Just had to have this picture! This was in the town of Waterside on the Ring of Kerry. We had just stopped to pick up beverages for our picnic at the "Carry Out" . . . no kidding, that is the name of a chain of "off premises" consumption beer/wine stores. To the point, no? And the best thing about them was they HAD ICE . . . FOR FREE! It is REALLY difficult to buy ice in Ireland but this chain GAVE IT AWAY! Wonderful.
Costello-Events > Bob's Easter service in Ennis, Ireland, Easter Sunday, 2007. No kidding, the pub is called the Sanctuary. It's right next door to the Ennis Friary.
Costello-Events > Mid trip we spurged on another hotel . . . generally considerably more costly than B&B's. We made this choice after checking out a "guest house" (usually a B&B but in town and/or not really someone's home) that had a wonderful room at a reasonable price but ON THE 4TH FLOOR! Bags up, bags down, no way. I barely survived the trip up to view the room! These weren't stairs, more like a ship's ladder.
Costello-Events > A real estate firm in Ennis.
Costello-Events > Outside a delightful flower shop in Kilkenny.
Costello-Events > Some explanation is in order. In 1998 we stayed in Gort and ate in this restaurant/public house. We just had to return and eat lunch. I had lamb off the "carvery" (buffet) and Cathy had a sandwich from the sandwich bar. And, of course, the obligatory pints.
